Poetry becomes so synonymous with trauma, that writers often feel their poetry lacks substance if it is not accessing pain or sadness. This workshop aims to unpack that myth and will help the writer recognize and access joy, and teaches how joy can be used as an impactful tool for writing.
During this workshop, writers will picture their joy as a house they are building. What color are the walls? What pictures do you place on the walls? Are there walls at all? Is your joy a house at all? These are some questions the writer will be asked to think about in this workshop. The writer will welcome the reader into the joy, experiment with the idea that joy is just as powerful as pain, and will discover it is just as beautiful and necessary as the pain.
