Jana is presented by wāni as a homage to the incredible lineage of storytelling embedded deep within the Black/African diaspora. The work will break from traditional narrative forms, utilizing interconnected vignettes, emotive verse, and live projections. It looks to challenge popular stereotypes of Black masculinity, rejecting the confines of binaries and assumptions to resist an anti-black world by creating a third space. This is a journey that is simultaneously intellectual and emotional, intimate and curious, humorous and very intentional. Through an introspective look at the world as seen, felt, experienced and imagined by the Afronaut. Adapted from personal experiences to explore a transnational Black identity, drawing on the Afronaut's unique positioning in a third-culture generation.
