Featuring Steve Smart as 'The Wild Optimist'
Sloth Arts presents a special night of poetic narratives, open to all styles and voices. Steve Smart is unearthing his one man poetry show 'Wild Optimist: the rises and falls of a performance poet', originally performed at Brisbane Festival Under The Radar in 2009. From wide eyed neophyte to embittered (and drunk, oh so drunk) emerged artist, to... (wait, no spoilers) ... it's a dark but recognisable journey with moments of humour and absurdity. Wild Optimist is also the birthplace of the poem 'The Turning' which opens with the immortal line 'Poets are the scavengers of human emotions'. How much of the show is character study and how much is autobiography is open to speculation and misinterpretation. So bring your poem stories and join us for a twisted evening upstairs at the fabulous Sloth Bar. Open mic sign up from 7.30, show starts at 8pm. MC Loran Steinberg.
